Algeria is the African country that, since the beginning of the century, has invested more in the construction of infrastructures, and among these is the pharaonic work of the Algiers Mosque with a cost of about three billion dollars.
It is the largest mosque in the world, after those of Mecca and Medina, with the 270-meter Minaret, the highest in the world – sixty more than that of Casablanca in Morocco, and visible from all over Algiers.
The Algiers Mosque, which can hold 120,000 believers in prayer – dreamed of for 55 years by Algeria, or since its independence – was designed by a Canadian Architecture Studio (which won an international competition among seventeen countries) for to be both a place of worship and of culture.
A religious library of one million books and two thousand seats, gardens, terraces, Islamic art museums, restaurants, a car park for five thousand cars, solar panels, basins for rainwater recycling and connecting roads to the Port and Downtown, is planned.
Built by Chinese companies, with the help of Italian engineering and professionalism, it uses as materials concrete, a huge amount of marble and other precious materials that are completed by the elegance of the facades, substructures and windows, with a building envelope completely in Anodized Aluminum with classic and timeless olive-brown Electrocolor.
